“ It’s manifestation was prefaced by a flurry of livestock mutilations on the Caribbean island nation of Puerto Rico. Most disturbing was the face that the animal corpses, which included goats, sheep, chickens, and rabbits, were report to be completely devoid of blood, as if some modern vampire had paid them a visit in the dark of night. Allegedly, two tell-tale puncture wounds were the only sign left behind by the unseen attacker. Soon, reports of hideous, goblinlike creatures were large, lidless eyes and razor-sharp claws began to surface. The Chupacabra had arrived.” – Ken Gerhard, Encounters With Flying Humanoids

The Father of War- Avatar of Nyarlathotep Adam Scott Glancy

Father of War
by Ian P. Duckett

“When Qassim pushed the metal vase over, shards of glittering black glass spilled out onto the floor. Qassim dipped his hand into the vase to see if old man Kassam had hidden his gold beneath shards. Just as Qassim started screaming, old Kassam pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head. He knew what was coming.”

A Weekend in Arkham 2015

By John Coviello

It happens once a year, as the warm golden glow of autumn light fades, the pale moon grows heavy and large, and the air takes on a discomforting chill. The veil between worlds grows thin. Heathens and Cultists are rumored to visit ancient ruins to worship the Great Azathoth during this darkling season, ghouls are said to hunt for prey in misty graveyards, and the wicked descendants of the Salem witches are known to soar alongside cawing murders of crows as the cruel neon beams of the Northern Lights flicker across the vault of the sky.

A Weekend in Arkham is coming.

Our annual two-day festival of H.P. Lovecraft and tabletop gaming will take place at the brick-n-mortar Little Shop of Magic store in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 17-18! We invite you to join us in delving into the mysteries of the Ancient Ones, and confronting profound, unspeakable, Lovecraftian horrors.

This year’s celebration features plentiful opportunities to play your favorite games based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft: Elder Sign, The Doom That Came to Atlantic City, Night of the Grand Octopus, Arkham Horror, Eldritch Horror, and many more. Seating is limited in most of these events, so we recommend that you pre-register early in order to reserve your spot.

Savor playing your old favorites, learn a new Lovecraft-themed game, or even contribute to the effort by submitting your own event. You can learn more about the weekend’s events by accessing the schedule here.

We look forward to seeing you in our shop for a weekend of bone-chilling, thoroughly enjoyable horror!

Sands through the Hourglass: Part 6 of The Curse of Azathoth’s Amulet

Things keep getting worse for our intrepid adventurer. MUCH worse.

The voice kept guiding Taylor. Whatever kind of car they were driving it was clear that it had more oomph than the SUV he drove. It didn’t help that he had no desire to get caught by the police, thus giving him far greater caution than they needed to exhibit. Still, he didn’t seem to be losing them.

“They only need to delay us. Can they summon the things or open the portal while they’re on the move?” He asked the question out loud, though he didn’t think he needed to.

“No. They will need to stop and make some sacrifices to do what they need done. It doesn’t need to be a big one, but the larger the amount of life force, the bigger the gateway.” The Mad Arab’s voice was real enough for Taylor to wonder if anyone else would be able to hear it.

“He then saw too bizarre creatures running after him. They were short, and looked like a half man, half monkey. They were covered in dark hair. Martinez reached the car, fumbling with his pockets for the keys. He was then suddenly grabbed from behind. He fell together with his assailant into a ditch beside the road…he managed to break free and scrambled towards the car. The creature jumped on top of him, screaming.” – eyewitness report, Albert Rosales’s Humanoid Sightings Reports Continue reading »

A Death on All Hallows’ Eve

I shall not hold you in suspense, Dear Reader, as I leave you with the burden of these, my final words. The ‘Death’ in the title of this note is, of course, mine own. Why I chose All Hallows’ Eve to perform my final act is pure coincidental timing. The gray aliens killed my mother. Then a group of Deep One cultists carried my father away to a watery demise. In both cases I could do nothing to intervene. The gray aliens somehow froze me and the cultists hit me on the head and knocked me unconscious. I am alone but not for much longer, Dear Friend.

I hope I prepared whoever finds me with the emergency signs I printed for the windows:

WARNING! CARBON MONOXIDE GAS! DO NOT OPEN DOOR! CALL 911!

A Man to Purgatory, A Woman to Hell

About the Scenario – This adventure takes place on the island of Martinique, in early May of 1928. The story begins in the capital of Fort-De-France and should end in the mountains to the north, along the road leading to the city of St. Pierre. The title refers to a Martinique proverb, “L’homme est pour le purgatoire, la femme pour l’enfer”, which translates to “A Man to Purgatory, A Woman to Hell.” This means that men are punished for their sins but women are dammed for them. It involves a missing man, his vengeful mistresses, his wife, their secret, and La Diablesse, a creature of Martinique’s folklore.    Continue reading »

La Diablesse — Oscar Rios

Image is A beautiful woman with a cow's leg, full dress, and a large hat

La Diablesse by
Ian MacLean

These creatures begin as a normal human woman who are transformed and corrupted by dealings with various dark powers, most often The Black Man, avatar of the Outer God Nyarlathotep.  Their creation follows a dark pact, wherein the woman uses magic to secure the romantic attentions of a particular man. Her wish is granted but with a price. When the object of her affection dies, typically by a tragic accident shortly after her wish is fulfilled, her dark contract is fulfilled. The “accident” is always caused by the malevolent that made the pact; as such beings seldom play fair. The woman is transformed into an immortal creature cursed to lead men to their doom.
