Worldline Leeches

A terminal-condition infestation for Cthulhu Eternal

The confirmation number was valid. That was the part nobody could argue with. Everything else about the ticket was wrong, but the number checked out, and the system was very calm about the fact that the journey had been completed forty-eight years ago.

Incident file 17-A: Blackwater appointment

Subject: Lena Ortez, 34, transportation systems engineer Date of first anomaly: October 5 Appointment: October 17, 03:17 Location: Blackwater Station, lower platform Current status: Station demolished in 1978

Twelve days remaining

Ortez receives a rail confirmation for a journey she never booked. The ticket lists no origin. Its destination is Blackwater Station, a name that does not appear anywhere on the current network map.

Customer service confirms the number is valid. According to their system the journey was completed forty-eight years ago.

Ortez deletes the message.

Nine days remaining

A water main fails beneath Ortez’s office and her department relocates for the month to a municipal building on Blackwater Avenue.

The shortest walking route takes her past a fenced excavation where contractors have turned up ceramic tiles carrying the old station name.

She tries a different way home. A collision closes it, and her navigation app routes her back past the excavation.

Seven days remaining

An occupational health scan finds a narrow lesion running through Ortez’s right lung. The edges are inflamed, consistent with an injury about a week old. She has no symptoms, and imaging from six months back shows healthy tissue.

The radiologist books a follow-up for October 18.

The appointment system quietly moves it to October 17 at 03:17. The examination room it lists is Blackwater Lower Platform.

Four days remaining

Investigators move Ortez ninety kilometers away. A freight derailment blocks the return route, knocks out power to two signaling centers, and pushes regional passenger traffic through a temporary bus interchange.

The interchange sits in the municipal excavation.

No one of these events is strange enough on its own to prove interference. Stacked together, they start to look like corrections.

Thirty minutes remaining

Ortez is sedated aboard a helicopter heading east, Blackwater Station well behind her.

At 02:49 the pilot suffers a retinal detachment. The copilot diverts toward the nearest roof rated for an emergency landing, which happens to belong to the municipal building on Blackwater Avenue.

At 03:02 every clock aboard the helicopter loses fifteen minutes.

At 03:16 the old platform lights come on beneath the excavation.

Nothing has hunted Lena Ortez through space. Her whole life has simply been made conditional on an arrival.

The organism at the other end

A Worldline Leech attaches itself to a reachable event in a host’s future. The attachment names a terminal condition: a place, a time window, a physical configuration, and one or more actions or witnesses. From that moment ordinary uncertainty develops a bias toward histories that are compatible with the condition.

The early corrections look like nothing more than bad luck. Missed calls and clerical errors, a traffic closure here, a chance meeting there, a piece of equipment that fails at the wrong moment, all of it keeping the event reachable. Push back harder and the corrections push back harder in turn. Institutions change their plans. Bodies survive accidents they had no business surviving. Roads fail in convenient directions. Whatever freedom the host seems to have keeps narrowing as the deadline closes in.

The endpoint is the leech’s feeding structure. At closure the parasite consumes the statistical weight of every alternative the realized event excluded. Tindalosian researchers call this path surprisal, borrowing a perfectly legitimate quantity from information theory to describe an entirely illegitimate metabolism.

If an event (E) has probability (P(E)) under an ordinary model, its surprisal is

I(E)=-\log_2 P(E)

Rare reachable events carry more bits of surprisal, so a leech goes for endpoints that stay possible while demanding that a great many things line up. A certain death is thin gruel. An exquisitely unlikely death, reached through a long chain of individually ordinary events, is a feast.

To the humans caught in it, the conditioning feels like fate. To the organism it is digestion.

Conditioned stochastic processes

The mathematics starts with a process whose future is uncertain. Let (X_t) describe the evolving state of a system. Given its current state (X_t=x), ordinary transition probabilities assign weights to the states it might move to next.

Now condition the whole ensemble on a terminal requirement:

X_T=x_T

The bridge process that results keeps only the paths that arrive at (x_T) at time (T), each weighted by its original probability. The earlier stretches of those paths show a statistical drift toward the endpoint, and they show it even when the unconditioned process has no such tendency at all.

For a Brownian bridge that ends at (x_T), one convenient stochastic differential equation is

dX_t = \frac{x_T-X_t}{T-t}\,dt + \sigma\,dW_t

The noise term never goes away. Random motion continues while the drift term keeps correcting any deviation from the required endpoint, and its magnitude grows as (T-t) shrinks. Close to the deadline, even a small displacement calls for a violent correction.

Here is the piece of mathematics that carries the horror. The victim is free to move. Every move she makes changes the correction needed to hold the terminal condition in place.

The Doob transform

The Doob (h)-transform is the general recipe for building conditioned Markov processes. For a process with transition kernel (P), the transformed kernel can be written schematically as

P^{(h)}(x,dy) = \frac{h(y)}{h(x)}P(x,dy)

with the exact form depending on whether the process is discrete, continuous, time-homogeneous, killed at a boundary, or conditioned on a finite-time event. For a terminal event (h(t,x)) is usually tied to the probability of reaching that event from state (x) at time (t).

Transitions that keep the endpoint reachable get more relative weight. Transitions that would make it unreachable get zero weight in the exactly conditioned ensemble.

Chetrite and Touchette push this idea out to Markov processes conditioned on rare, large-deviation events. They build an effective or driven process whose typical paths reproduce the conditioned behavior in the right long-time limit. It is genuinely useful mathematics for nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, for fluctuation theory, for stochastic control and rare-event sampling.

Schrödinger bridge problems ask for the most likely stochastic evolution connecting two specified endpoint distributions while staying close, often in relative entropy, to a reference process. That has modern applications in control, transport, inference, and generative modeling. The name is historical, and it should not be confused with Schrödinger’s cat.

Not one of these frameworks lets the future reach back and adjust today’s traffic lights. Conditioning describes a selected ensemble, or an effective process that reproduces its statistics. It never supplies an agent that picks an endpoint and then physically enforces it.

The Tindalosian axiom

A Worldline Leech uses angular time to turn a future boundary condition into a physical (h)-function that governs one macroscopic causal history.

The leech projects only a sliver of itself into curved spacetime. Most of its anatomy lives in the set of paths still able to satisfy the endpoint. Its local influence reweights transitions through ordinary channels: attention and mechanical failure, institutional policy, weather, physiology, scheduling, and human choice.

The fictional organism obeys four limits.

Reachability

The endpoint has to stay physically reachable. A leech cannot condition a person in Boston to stand on Mars tomorrow unless the transport for it already exists. What it can do is exploit an overlooked aircraft, alter a launch manifest, or engineer an emergency diversion. Every one of those still needs a causal path to run along.

Local cost

Corrections take work in the projected world. Small shifts in probability come cheap. Severe corrections demand energy, records, injuries, or the manipulation of complicated systems. In play that cost is paid out of the leech’s WP.

Finite specification

An endpoint holds only a limited set of invariants. A leech might require the host to stand in one particular corner at one particular time while speaking a phrase, and leave everything outside that specification free. Working out which details actually matter is what makes substitution possible.

Terminal closure

Feeding happens when some physical system registers that the terminal requirements have been met. Whatever performs that registration becomes part of the mouth, whether it is a witness, a camera, an instrument, a scar, or a change to a building. A near-match that nothing records may leave the parasite hungry.

What investigators observe

The leech itself stays hard to see before closure. What gives it away is the way its conditioning leaks into systems that estimate the future.

  • Calendars generate appointments tied to the endpoint.
  • Predictive models converge even when they are fed different inputs.
  • Medical imaging shows injuries whose inflammatory age is older than the injury itself.
  • Route planners keep including a closed or nonexistent location.
  • Insurance systems price an event before the policyholder has started it.
  • Cameras reserve storage for footage that has not been recorded.
  • Witnesses remember making plans they have not yet discussed.
  • Probability estimates get better calibrated once you exclude the host’s survival.

These are forecast residues. Each one is a physical system that has coupled, partway, to the terminal condition. Residues help you read off the endpoint’s invariants, but the same residues strengthen the registration network the leech needs in order to feed.

Appearance at closure

A feeding Worldline Leech looks like a diagram of possible routes that has been compressed into anatomy. Its body forks at every joint and rejoins at the endpoint. The veins carry ticket stock and road markings, appointment text, weather radar, capillary beds, and the thin black lines planning software draws to show predicted movement.

The head sits at the registered terminal event. The rest of its anatomy runs backward through the corrections that made the event certain. Watch it long enough and the earlier coincidences move beneath its surface like working organs. A delayed train contracts like a muscle. A forged order blinks like an eye. A survivor’s healed rib becomes a length of its spine.

The mouth closes around a fact rather than flesh:

This happened here, to this person, at this time.

Preparing an infestation

Before play the Handler writes an Endpoint Card. It has five fields.

FieldMeaningBlackwater example
HostThe person or physical token being conditionedLena Ortez, or an adequate biological substitute
PlaceThe required spacetime regionBlackwater lower platform, marker 6
WindowThe interval in which closure can occurOctober 17, 03:16:30 to 03:17:30
ConfigurationThe geometry, objects, and environmental state requiredHost beside an exposed three-plane corner as a northbound mass passes
RegistrationThe system that must record completionA living witness hears the host say, “I am waiting”

Every field needs at least one clue. At least two of them should allow substitution. The Handler also prepares a Correction Ladder of six increasingly expensive interventions.

The endpoint should never come down to a particular player decision. It names a physical state the parasite wants. How the Protagonists respond to that is left to them.

Correction budget

A Worldline Leech starts with 22 WP, and corrections spend it down.

CorrectionWP costPermitted scale
Nudge1A missed call, minor delay, software suggestion, chance encounter, or moment of distraction
Redirection2A canceled booking, vehicle fault, administrative order, localized outage, or plausible medical event
Convergence4A road closure, institutional relocation, serious injury, coordinated data error, or the destruction of one escape route
Violent correction6A lethal accident, structural failure, mass casualty, improbable rescue, or regional disruption

The Handler may reach for a correction only when the current situation has made the endpoint less reachable. Every correction needs a concrete causal carrier, and it must come from the written ladder or follow directly from conditions already established.

A correction cannot cancel a successful test. If the Protagonists succeed in flying the host away, the flight happens. What the leech can do next is damage the aircraft, falsify a landing order, invent a reason to return, or revise a substitutable endpoint field. Those are fresh problems, with their own clues and consequences.

This budget is what turns resistance into progress. Every forced correction drains the parasite. Loud corrections give away its model. At 0 WP the terminal condition loses its grip, and the organism becomes vulnerable to premature closure.

Convergence clock

Mark six stages by the time remaining. The actual duration might be hours, weeks, or years.

StageTime pressureEffect
0Attachment recently formedForecast residues only; corrections cost +1 WP
1Endpoint is one planning horizon awayNudge and Redirection available
2Independent forecasts convergeThe host suffers 0/1 SAN when shown credible evidence
3Ordinary escape routes begin closingConvergence corrections available; the leech can attack through accidents
4Endpoint lies within one operational sceneCorrection costs return to normal and the body becomes partly visible
5Terminal window opensViolent corrections available; all endpoint fields become physically detectable
6ClosureFeeding, substitution, rupture, or premature embodiment resolves the infestation

Advancing the clock never restores WP. Delay only helps the leech when it can conserve its correction budget while it waits.

Investigating the endpoint

Each successful investigation identifies one of the following:

  • An Endpoint Card field.
  • One item on the Correction Ladder.
  • A forecast residue and the system carrying it.
  • A previously used correction and its WP cost.
  • A substitutable detail within a field.
  • A false correlation that can safely be ignored.

Useful skills include Alertness, Bureaucracy, Computer Science, Criminology, Forensics, HUMINT, Medicine, Navigate, Pharmacy, Science, Search, SIGINT, and Unnatural. The method matters more than the label on it.

A failed test does not advance Convergence on its own. It burns time, exposes a Protagonist, yields an incomplete inference, or gives a prepared correction room to develop.

Calculating the meal

Once investigators have a reasonable baseline model, Science or Mathematics can estimate the endpoint’s surprisal. Exact probability is almost never available. An order-of-magnitude range is plenty.

Let

S(E)=-\ln P(E)

be the natural-log surprisal, closely related to the large-deviation action used to characterize rare fluctuations. A sequence of loosely independent contingencies gives

P(E)\approx\prod_i P(e_i), \qquad S(E)\approx-\sum_i\ln P(e_i)

The independence assumption is usually false. Turning up the correlations can slash the estimated meal and reveal that some of the “coincidences” shared an ordinary cause all along.

For play, classify the meal without pretending to a precision you cannot have:

Estimated rarityMeal ratingClosure effect
Unusual1Leech recovers 1D4 WP and detaches
Rare2Leech recovers 1D8 WP; host loses 1D4 WP
Exceptional3Leech recovers all WP; host loses 1D8 WP and 1D4 SAN
Catastrophic alignment4Host faces a Lethality 20% event; leech buds or propagates

These probabilities stay quantities defined by a model. What the Tindalosian metabolism does is treat model-relative path weight as if it were something physically accessible.

Worldline Leech

Angular terminal-condition parasite, prematurely embodied form

Before terminal closure or premature embodiment the leech has no single targetable body. Its WP is exposed through corrections, forecast residues, and the engineering of the endpoint.

Attacks

Corrective accident 60%, damage 1D8 or Lethality 10%, costs 2 or 5 WP. The leech uses an established causal carrier to injure a target whose action threatens reachability. The Handler describes the physical accident before rolling. The Lethality version requires machinery, traffic, fire, structural failure, or another hazard already in the scene.

Deadline compression 70%, opposed by POW, costs 3 WP. The target feels every narrowing route at once. Success costs them 1D8 WP and 1/1D6 SAN. For the next turn they can act only to move toward the endpoint, preserve an endpoint field, or resist with an opposed POW test.

Excise alternative 50%, opposed by DEX or INT, costs 4 WP. One accessible exit, communication route, institutional option, or prepared contingency becomes physically unavailable. A successful opposition preserves the option but forces the leech to pay the WP anyway.

Powers

Terminal attachment: The leech binds one host, or one transferable physical token, to a written Endpoint Card. Killing the apparent host does not necessarily end the attachment if the Host field permits a corpse, a tissue sample, a legal identity, or some other token. That requirement has to be specified from the start.

Bridge drift: Coincidences generated through the Correction Ladder keep their ordinary proximal causes. Only Unnatural analysis reveals the conditioning underneath them. Each individual event stays statistically and forensically plausible unless the leech overspends near the deadline.

Forecast leakage: Systems built to predict, schedule, insure, diagnose, route, or allocate resources can couple weakly to the endpoint. The leech can spend 1 WP to plant a forecast residue in one such system, and investigators can then work that residue as a clue.

Causal substitution: The leech can swap one nonessential means of reaching an endpoint for another. A train can become a bus, or an emergency vehicle. What it cannot do is silently change a discovered invariant. Revising an invariant costs 5 WP, throws off a new forecast residue, and requires a physically plausible overlap between the old conditions and the new.

Survivorship correction: If the endpoint requires a living host, a premature death threatens reachability. The leech may spend 6 WP to knock 20 percentage points off the Lethality rating of the fatal event, or to convert death into survival at 0 HP followed by stabilization. The rescue leaves unmistakable physiological anomalies and costs 1D4/1D8 SAN to any witness who understands what just happened.

Deadline singularity: During Convergence 5 the cost of a Nudge drops to 0 WP once per turn. The leech gains +20% to Navigate and to Corrective Accident. Every endpoint field is simultaneously detectable with the right instruments.

Path consumption: At closure, resolve the Meal Rating. The host suffers the listed effect, and the leech either detaches back into angular time or buds through the registration system. Destroying that registration system before it records closure interrupts feeding, though it may leave the attachment intact.

Countermeasures

Force expenditure

Move the host, cut logistical connections, expose the institutions being manipulated, and make the endpoint expensive to preserve. Every legitimate success should force a correction or add to the distance from closure.

This works best early. Nearer the deadline, the same WP buys more violence.

Endpoint substitution

Reproduce the required fields using a decoy host, a biological sample, a forged identity, an autonomous system, or a willing substitute. The replacement has to satisfy the physical registration criteria. A verbal technicality does nothing unless the parasite’s endpoint genuinely depends on a semantic record.

Rate the match from 0 to 4, one point for each essential field other than Window:

  • Host
  • Place
  • Configuration
  • Registration

A complete match redirects closure. A three-point match forces an opposed Science or Unnatural test against the leech’s POW. Anything lower reveals which field rejected the substitution, and it may trigger a correction.

Split the endpoint

Build two mutually exclusive configurations, each satisfying part of the terminal condition. A leech with enough WP just picks one and revises its path. A depleted leech may have to divide its projected anatomy, which leaves it vulnerable in both locations.

Premature closure

Assemble the terminal configuration before the Window and reproduce its registration system. That compels the parasite to contest whether the boundary condition has actually been satisfied. At 0 WP, or after a successful opposed Unnatural test, it localizes in the apparatus as a finite creature.

The body that results can be killed using its statistics. Destroy the apparatus before the body hits 0 HP and you release the attachment instead.

Reduce surprisal

Make the endpoint ordinary. Publicize the appointment. Schedule hundreds of people to occupy the place. Run the required phrase on a loop. Reproduce the configuration until its occurrence carries almost no information.

The parasite may walk away from a meal whose expected surprisal has fallen below its cost of correction. Publicity also breeds more possible hosts and registration systems, so a careless attempt at normalization can turn into a mass infestation.

Make the endpoint unreachable

Take one invariant out of the physically accessible future. Controlled destruction, permanent geometric alteration, legal abolition, launch into space, or death may do it.

Reachability has to genuinely reach zero. A demolished station whose platform still lies buried beneath a city is still a place. A killed host may leave behind a corpse, an identity, organs, recordings, and a set of scheduled institutional actions.

Running inevitability fairly

  • Write the Endpoint Card and Correction Ladder before play.
  • Provide at least one clue for every invariant.
  • Track WP openly once the Protagonists identify the correction budget.
  • Pay for every intervention.
  • Give each correction a physical causal carrier.
  • Preserve successful tests and player decisions.
  • Let preparation make future corrections predictable.
  • Allow endpoint substitution when the physical match is sound.
  • Make noisy corrections easier to investigate.
  • Keep the terminal event reachable without ever declaring it unavoidable.

The scenario runs on constrained probability, not narrative immunity. A Handler who moves the endpoint every time the players find a solution has swapped the monster out for authorial cheating.

Operation: Appointment at Blackwater Station

What happened

Lena Ortez surveyed a buried transit tunnel after a Probability Reef incident eleven months ago. She caught a brief glimpse of a blue angular organism embedded in a route simulation, and the encounter left her worldline accessible from angular time.

A Worldline Leech chose Blackwater Station because the abandoned lower platform still holds a three-plane corner whose material survived demolition. A northbound train passing above the platform sets up a short-lived vibration mode that links the corner to the active rail network.

What the parasite wants is a living contaminated observer to register the phrase I am waiting at marker 6 during that mode.

Endpoint Card

FieldRequirement
HostA living person carrying residue from the original Probability Reef survey
PlaceMarker 6 on Blackwater lower platform
Window03:16:30 to 03:17:30 on October 17
ConfigurationHost touches the exposed corner while a northbound rail mass passes overhead
RegistrationA living witness hears the host say, “I am waiting”

The Host field allows substitution. Three other surveyors carry weaker residue. Ortez’s blood and equipment do not qualify, because the host has to be alive. A Corner Brood colony could imitate the contamination, but it would open a second emergency in the process.

Correction Ladder

  1. Route suggestions mention Blackwater.
  2. Ortez’s workplace relocates to Blackwater Avenue.
  3. Medical and scheduling systems create the appointment.
  4. Regional transport failures direct traffic through the excavation.
  5. An evacuation order moves local residents toward the platform entrance.
  6. A rail-control failure sends a northbound maintenance train over the buried station during the Window.

The leech begins with 22 WP. Run the opening countdown until the Protagonists intervene, then pay for further corrections according to scale.

Clues

The ticket: Computer Science finds a valid transaction with no originating request. Its database row was written by a repair process designed to restore missing journey records.

The scan: Medicine establishes that the lung lesion is a forecast residue rather than an ordinary wound. Its shape matches a section of tunnel rebar at marker 6.

The excavation: Search or Engineering identifies the surviving corner and the old marker. Vibration sensors pick up a narrow resonance every time a northbound train passes.

The phrase: Three unrelated speech-recognition systems have added “I am waiting” to Ortez’s predicted transcript. SIGINT traces their agreement back to models trained on completely different data.

The witness: Personnel records assign municipal inspector Emil Var to the excavation during the Window. Var died in 1998. Every system currently scheduling the project treats him as alive.

Var is a forecast residue serving the Registration field. Left unchallenged, he acquires a body at 03:16.

Operational choices

Exhaust the leech: Move Ortez again and again and cut every route you identify. This drains WP, and it exposes her to steadily more violent corrections.

Use another surveyor: A substitute can satisfy Host. That choice knowingly hands Meal Rating 4 exposure to someone who has survived the contamination for close to a year.

Normalize the endpoint: Fill the platform with volunteers repeating the phrase while a train loops overhead. Surprisal collapses, but the leech now has a crowd of candidate hosts and witnesses to choose from.

Counterfeit the contamination: Introduce Corner Brood into a living animal or a human volunteer. The leech may accept the angular residue. Meanwhile the Brood starts converting the buried station into habitat.

Trap the closure: Reproduce marker 6, its resonance, and the registration condition inside a curved containment chamber before the Window. If the leech has been depleted, it embodies early and can be killed.

Destroy the platform: Demolition can wipe out Place and Configuration. It also generates thousands of new corners, releases old contamination, and may turn the site into a Corner Brood bloom.

Terminal scene

At 03:16 every remaining route through the operation begins to converge.

Streetlights point toward the excavation. Radios repeat the phrase in Ortez’s voice. The northbound maintenance train accelerates with no power to draw on. Emil Var stands beside marker 6 in clothing from 1998, wearing a municipal badge that will not be issued until tomorrow.

If the trap holds, a translucent branching structure pushes up through the prepared corner. Every correction shows up inside it at once. The Protagonists get one combat scene to kill the finite organism while keeping the trap intact.

If closure succeeds, Ortez touches the tile as the train passes. She says the phrase, because Var asks her why she came.

The lesion in her lung becomes current. The appointment system marks her visit complete.

Additional operations

Discharge date

A hospital’s predictive model hands one patient a discharge date three weeks after his documented terminal illness should have killed him. Every attempted transfer, every hospice referral, every failed treatment somehow keeps him alive and inside the building.

The endpoint requires him to leave through a specific service elevator carrying an organ that belongs to another patient. Kill him and you only preserve the transplant pathway.

Launch window

An aerospace contractor discovers that every Monte Carlo simulation puts the same guidance engineer aboard an uncrewed test vehicle at ignition. Security removes her from the site. Then supply failures, legal injunctions, and a launch-pad fire steadily bring the vehicle to her.

The endpoint specifies her access credential, not her body. She can survive by handing the leech exactly what the organization hired her to protect.

The perfect alibi

A murder suspect has an alibi propped up by increasingly improbable evidence. Investigators work out that the alibi describes an event four days in the future. The suspect has not committed the murder yet.

Preventing it forces corrections that manufacture motive, weapon, victim access, and witnesses. The endpoint requires a legally registered homicide, so a staged death might satisfy it, provided the registration survives scrutiny.

Actuarial saint

An insurer’s risk system starts preventing accidents among customers booked to attend one corporate conference. Seat belts lock early. Smoke alarms go off before ignition. Ambulances arrive before the calls come in.

The apparent miracles preserve hundreds of people for a single Meal Rating 4 closure inside the conference hotel. Shut the model down and you remove the warnings while leaving the conditioning perfectly intact.

The last ferry

An island resident spends forty years avoiding the mainland. Every timetable published in that time carries a nonexistent final sailing with his name as its vessel designation.

As the date nears, tides and storms and inheritance law and a family illness assemble the abandoned ferry at his private dock. The endpoint requires the vessel to arrive on the mainland. Whether the resident is aboard remains an undiscovered invariant.

Field classification

WORLDLINE LEECH Type: Angular terminal-condition parasite Habitat: Reachable rare events connected to angularly contaminated observers Diet: Path surprisal released when a selected endpoint becomes physically registered Behavior: Conditions local transitions, closes escape routes, exports forecasts, and escalates corrections near a deadline Movement principle: Effective drift through causal carriers that preserve endpoint reachability Primary sign: Independent planning and prediction systems converging on one improbable place, time, or configuration Containment principle: Discover the endpoint, exhaust its correction budget, substitute its invariants, reduce its surprisal, or force premature closure Critical hazard: Resistance without measurement can raise the violence required for convergence while telling you nothing about the terminal condition

Where the science ends

Brownian bridges, Markov conditioning, Doob (h)-transforms, large-deviation theory, driven processes, Schrödinger bridges, surprisal, stochastic control, and preselected or postselected quantum ensembles are all legitimate mathematics and physics.

A conditioned ensemble contains paths selected according to a terminal event, and its earlier statistics can show drift toward that event. An effective driven process can reproduce those conditioned statistics through modified local dynamics. Neither of those facts establishes retrocausation. Researchers impose the conditioning mathematically after they specify an event, or they engineer a control process aimed at a target distribution.

The Aharonov-Bergmann-Lebowitz formulation treats quantum ensembles with both an initial and a final measurement condition in a time-symmetric way, and it supplies conditional probabilities for intermediate measurements. It does not let tomorrow’s desired outcome rewrite today’s macroscopic events on command.

The fictional axiom is what supplies the missing physical agent. Angular time lets the organism select a future boundary condition, construct a macroscopic effective drift, pay real thermodynamic costs for its corrections, and metabolize model-relative path weight at closure.

The equations describe the shape of the trap. The leech is the invention sitting inside it.

Closing record

The first Blackwater ticket contained no origin. After the incident, investigators went back and checked it again.

The origin field now held Lena Ortez’s date of birth. The destination field held the time of her death. The confirmation number was still valid.
