Venom Grass

OctoberNomicon logo

I keep feeling better Doc, slowly. It hurts like hell when I stretch, and I swear I can feel the grass tearing when I do, dozens of little popping sounds–but could be I’m imagining that. Maybe it’s still growing a little, I don’t know.

What scares me is the dreams, I’m still having them just as bad. I’m in a dark forest, jungle, and it’s hot and humid. I hear a voice, more like feel it, inside me but I don’t understand what She’s saying.

Then I fall to my knees, and I’m scared shitless, but I’m praying to Her.—Patrick Everson, Patient in a medical facility of undisclosed location.

King Lycaon, ancient Greek king of Arcadia: the first Werewolf (Tindalosian Hybrid)

OctoberNomicon logo

The Myth: According to the mythology of ancient Greece, King Lycaon was the king of Arcadia. He was known for being extraordinary cruel and to regularly challenge the gods themselves. It was this last vice which drew the attention of Zeus who arrived in mortal disguise to test and challenge King Lycaon. Lycaon was able to see through this disguise and decided to test the true might of a god, to see if Zeus was as omnipotent as others claimed the King of the Gods was. To test the god, King Lycaon killed his youngest son of Nyctimus, cut him up and served him in a dish as meat for the god. Zeus immediately detected the treachery, threw off his disguise to appear in his full godly glory, and proceeded to use his lightning bolts to destroy Lycaon’s palace. As for King Lycaon, Zeus turned him into a wolf and brought Nyctimus back to life. There were many who believed that King Lycaon stalked the night still, developing a taste of human flesh due to the horrific act of cannibalism that he performed.

The Thing with Two Heads, Experiments into immortality run amuck.

OctoberNomicon logo

Some say consciousness and identity resides in the brain. It if the body fails the brain is doomed to die with the rest of the physical body. But what if, just before death, the brain was transplanted onto another donor body? Theoretically, if successful, one could cheat death again and again, changing bodies the way people swap out disposable contact lenses. This highly unethical and universally illegal research is being done at various laboratories across the globe. Experiments are ongoing and sometimes go awry, creating something neither man nor beast, but a monstrous combination of the two – The Thing with Two Head.

Aani / Sacred Vessels of Ancient Gods

OctoberNomicon logo

Many gods of Egypt, including Thoth (God of astronomy, magic, and the judgement of the dead), Hapy (diving protectors of canopic jars), and Khonsu (a god of healing, exploration, and the moon), consider the Yellow Baboon to be a sacred animal. Such gods can grant a portion of their power into a yellow baboon, usually a large dominant male of a troop, to create a powerful agent to act on their behalf. This creature is called an Aani, and is granted gains increased intelligence, magical protection from harm, and enhanced physical abilities. One can tell an Aani from a normal yellow baboon by the size of the creature (Aani are about 50% larger), and the animal’s head. The head of a baboon that’s become an Aani is transformed into that of a dog, usually an Egyptian Hound.

The Blood Map

OctoberNomicon logo

It was horrible, fucking horrible. The “sorcerer,” shit. My cousin Christopher, we grew up like brothers, had to be trepanated for a nick of his brain. Doctor Wilson split him open like he was performing an autopsy, to take a tiny piece of his heart, and he did a spinal tap for some fluid. They mixed all this up with Christopher’s blood.

When he woke up, he said a bunch of crazy shit in some language and dropped some of this on that creepy ass map. It fell into the margin and made a weird symbol. Somehow, this gave them an idea where Tiffany had been taken.

Now we’re down in this room beneath a basement at some big wood door with metal bands. They put some kind of drops in my eyes that made everything look clearer, more real. Apparently there’s some other world on the other side of that door. All I know for sure is I’ve got my 12 gauge pump, a shitload of ammo, and we’re going to bring her home.–From a sheaf of handwritten notes found in the Special Archives Room at the Miskatonic University Orne Library.

Boitata / Vengeful Fire Serpent

OctoberNomicon logo

These creatures are created by a ritual performed by cultists of the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. In some cases, they manifest by the direct will of the outer goddess Shub-Niggurauth herself. These creatures typically appear when a location sacred to the goddess in the Amazon is threatened or destroyed, something happening all too often in recent years. A Boitata begins as a large constrictor, such as a Green Anaconda or Boa Constrictor, in the general area of the threatened or desecrated sacred site. The animal is then transformed, granted incredible powers, and given a divine mandate – punish those harming the forest.

Mi-go Brain Cylinder Mobility Unit

OctoberNomicon logo

Cyborg Explorer

Did we find Lieutenant Wilson? Sure we did…sort of? At least I think it was him. The canister talked like him and knew who we were. He said he could help us fight the weird fungal looking crab things if we put the canister…him, I guess… into the…“mobility unit” he called it. When we did, it stood up like a giant bronze skeleton. Scared the shit out of me too, I’ll admit. The voice then came from the skeleton thing. It said, “Thanks, boys. Time to get to work,” just like the LT always did before we went into action. Then it ran off further into the bunker complex. We never saw it…err…him after that. We did find a bunch of those crab things, dead, slowly melting? Evaporating? I don’t know. Left behind just grease slicks. Like I said we never saw the mobility thing again. We did find Lieutenant Wilson’s body later, as we explored the complex after all the crab things were dead or fled. Just his body though. His brain looked like it was scooped out with a giant melon baller or something.

Myxinous Scion

OctoberNomicon logo

Great Sea-Worms, Keepers of the Sunken Temple

Deep in the freezing depths of the Atlantic Ocean, the God of the Sunken Temple waits and dreams, sealed within the ruined, weed-wreathed buildings that were once the glory of Atlantis. Appearing in artwork and men’s dreams as a supernaturally beautiful young man, the God’s true form is unknown; perhaps the Myxinous Scions, enormous worm-like creatures that tend to the God’s temples, offer a hint to the entity’s true face.
