Father Julius Mills

A helping hand with a sinister agenda…

This man, of average height and appearance, has a face that easily blends into a crowd. This is intentional, as he likes to work unnoticed. In the past he has been an army chaplain (retired with the rank of captain), a medical doctor, and a Catholic priest specializing in the rites of exorcism. He works as a lone mythos investigator, using his wide array of skills, knowledge, expertise, and combat training to battle the forces of the Cthulhu Mythos and defend humanity from its evil and corruption. He often waits and watches people or places he suspects to be tainted by the Cthulhu Mythos, and then moves against it when the time is right.

Keepers can use this NPC as a special drop-in savior, arriving just in the nick of time to assist teams of investigators who are in over their heads. This can be anything from a well-placed rifle shot, to emergency first aid to stabilize a dying person, to assisting with research or offering occult advice. He is kind, charming, passionate about thwarting the aims of sinister cults and their dark masters, and deeply, dangerously insane.

The truth is Father Julius Mills has been excommunicated by the church. He’s wanted for questioning in over a dozen murders, and is being pursued by the Pontifical Swiss Guard, who have orders to detain him if possible, with deadly force authorized if necessary. This is because while Father Mills does assist investigators who are opposing mythos threats, in his delusional, damaged mind he feels that all knowledge of such things is an inherent threat to mankind. Therefore, once a crisis is over, he attempts to kill everyone with knowledge of the incident, whether they’re a fellow mythos investigator, a member of the local police force, or even an innocent witness.

He prefers to do this in a civilized manner, as cleanly and painlessly as possible. His favored tool for such murders is chloroform, using it to render victims unconscious before thrusting a knife through their temple. He then attempts to burn their bodies, and always has at least four 1-gallon metal gas containers in his vehicle at all times. In his mind this is totally justified, necessary, condoned by God by divine mandate, and in the best interest of mankind. So, while investigators may think this person is a godsend at first, assisting them in their darkest hour, he’ll coldly and calmly turn on them with deadly intent once the mythos threat is over.
