Le Fear Fatal

It was around 4:30am in the bus station located at Melnea Cass Boulevard & Madison Avenue in Boston. Several scantily clad women were standing on the sidewalk, some visibly digging at invisible spiders. Bit by bit, cars containing single men pulled up, and the women left…only to return a short time later. A girl in a leather jacket, pleated plaid skirt, and auburn pixie cut was gone the most, seconded only by a young woman with locks the color of orangish flame wearing only black negligee. A blonde woman who could be otherwise cosplaying Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction down to the hair cut and bare feet had grown frustrated and restless, keenly aware of the current trade of the night. Finally, she stormed off down the street, passed the intersection and after walking past the homeless shelter, turned the corner onto Albany as a tall, lithe redhead clad only in a stained grey thong bikini.

In nature, many opportunistic predators evolve to take the form of their prey. Examples of this include the fireflies of the genus Photuris that emit the same photonic signals that females of the genus Photinus emit as a mating signal. The same can be said of the shoggoth. As humans are the top species on this planet and account for a great deal of it’s biomass, specializing in preying on them has been the niche of several species of predator. As such, it makes sense that a quickly adapting species such as the shoggoth would use mimicry as a predation strategy.

The Le Fear Fatal takes the look of, including replicating clothes, a sexually available female.  They’re not very sentient in any humanly recognizable way, with intelligence on par of an African Grey Parrot. As human society progressed, they adapted to the more common courtship patterns they observed in their new natural environment: a concrete jungle.

They’ve grown into the niche of blending in with street walking prostitutes; this involves the least amount of social interaction, which they can’t do very well, and leads most quickly to the prey leading it to an isolated location to attempt to breed with it. They’re even known to mimic price lists and services offered that were overheard from other girls at a location. This works greatly to their advantage as conversation rarely consists of more than just that, other than indicating “I know a place baby” if the prey seems unwilling to lead it to a feeding location. It otherwise has no context as to what it’s saying, nor is it capable of understanding the context. To it, there’s no difference between “$30 for a blowjob,” “Θα σε γαμήσω για κοκαΐνη,” and a duck call. They’re just mimicking the mating songs of the more successful human females in the immediate area. The calling out of “your place or mine” is about the only thing they know as far as varying dialogue, and once again, that particular collection of sounds is generally acquired from mimicking the sounds of successful females in the area.

It is a cognitively simple and effective predator.  If an investigator attempts to question one further, mistaking it for a human, it may wink, seductively lick it’s lips, or even flash them. These are all courtship dances it’s observed in the past. It is unable to grasp linguistic communication.

Once alone, Le Fear Fatal begins what is at first assumed to be vigorous and aggressive lovemaking, tasting the prey whilst quickly removing any decorative coverings getting in the way of the raw flesh, it’s only after the prey notices a fifth or sixth arm wrapping around them (and they often don’t notice) that it begins to struggle. At this point, it is too late—all of the shoggoth’s orifices, as well as several new ones, grow lines of needle-like teeth and begin to rapidly feed, consuming skin, muscle, sinew, and even bone.  Unlike the Shoggoth Lord, this predator doesn’t absorb and digest it’s prey whole. Instead it bites and chews with a million ever forming mouths. While dropping it’s human visage, there is a sanity loss, as well as more attacks available to it (such as the feeding detailed here). The creature will prefer to default to the human form unless feeding, cornered or fleeing; say down a drain pipe or up a wall. It can not fly.

If the shoggoth consumes enough quickly enough it will grow in mass. This, oddly enough, often slows down successive feedings, which is why it will often seek to consume multiple victims at once, if at all possible.  If it grows large enough, it reproduces by way of division, leaving two identical diminutive gamine beauties in its wake.
