The Flying Head

This creature from Native American folklore appears as a huge head, the size of a grown man, which flies through the air on nightly hunts with a ravenous hunger for human flesh. While all reports of these creatures depict them as horrific, with wide maws filled with sharp teeth, other details vary. Some appear to be male, others female, some appear rotted while others seem freshly severed. Some flying heads have long hair, or the wings of bats or ravens where their ears should be. They are often seen emerging from or returning to bodies of water where they lair in the murky depths until nightfall.

Legends say these creatures were created when tribal elders refused to leave their native lands during famine. After stating they would rather starve to death in their homelands than live with plenty in as foreigners in a strange land. The younger members of their tribe became enraged and slew their elders, decapitating them and sinking their heads into a body of water. However, the next night the heads of the starving elders emerged from the water, hugely enlarged, grotesquely deformed, and ravenous for both revenge and human flesh.

These creatures attack with vicious bites. While they’re strong and fast fliers they cannot life prey above size 25 off the ground. They take half damage from mundane weapons, are immune to poison, and resistance (50% damage) to fire as they always seem dripping wet.
