Legends tell of a body of water where the voices of the dead whisper and mutter, with those hearing them never to be seen alive again. Called The Haunted Sea with various stories placing it in the south pacific, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean or the Mediterranean. In truth all of these places qualifies, as they’re the hunting ground the creature responsible for these stories. he infamous creature who dwells there.
A Creature from the Haunted Sea appears to be an enormous crab, similar to a common Blue Crab. This creature is quite intelligent, weighs between 2000 and 3000 pounds, and can grow to be the size of a small car. Their thick shells offer them good protection from attacks. They attack with a pair of powerful claws, grabbing prey and either dragging or pulling them into deep water to drown (grapple mnvr, opposed STR check to free, for drowning see page 124 of the Call of Cthulhu Keeper’s Rulebook, CON check or 1D6 points of damage per round).
The Creature from the Haunted Sea has an organ unique to all decapod crustaceans which allows them to perfectly mimic the voices of victims whose brains they’ve consumed. They also gain the victim’s recent memories, allowing it to know the names of their companions. Armed with this ability and knowledge these creature lure victims into striking range by mimicking human speech. Once a victim is claimed the creature attacks again and again, using its abilities to target a previous victim’s companions. While Creature from the Haunted Sea typically hunt under the cover of night or when thick fog has arisen. These voices from the missing and the dead are what gives the “Haunted Sea” its name.
