the killing had been done by Black Winged Ones which had
come to them from their immemorial meeting-place
in the haunted wood.“
HP Lovecraft, The Call of Cthulhu
The Black Winged Ones, Lesser Servitor Race
Black Winged Ones, so-called for lack of a proper name, could almost be described as squid-like, if not for their roundish-shape, odd number tentacled, and leathery wings. Unlike squids, the Black Winged Ones live on land, carrying themselves through the air on their chiropterian wings. The Black Winged Ones serve the Hierophants and the cults they patronize, functioning much like the Nightgaunts of Nodens. They accept sacrifices to Cthulhu, slashing and stabbing the offered with their clawed tentacles, created wounds that remarkably resemble those of a knife. Some cults and Hierophants employ the Black Winged Ones as assassins to protect their secrets.
Special Effects and Attacks:
Tentacles:Each round, a Black Winged One attacks with 1d8 tentacles, each of which may make a slash, stab, or strangle attack.
