These creatures are created by a ritual performed by cultists of the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young. In some cases, they manifest by the direct will of the outer goddess Shub-Niggurauth herself. These creatures typically appear when a location sacred to the goddess in the Amazon is threatened or destroyed, something happening all too often in recent years. A Boitata begins as a large constrictor, such as a Green Anaconda or Boa Constrictor, in the general area of the threatened or desecrated sacred site. The animal is then transformed, granted incredible powers, and given a divine mandate – punish those harming the forest.
When transformed the constrictor increase in size by 50%, and grow a pair of curled horns like a ram. They gain the ability to fly for short distances, up to a half mile once every three hours. Their greatest gift is their affinity for fire. Boitata appear to be on fire with colorful flames constantly rising from its hide. They can also breath a thick jet of flames, 2 meters (6 feet) wide and up to 30 meters (90 feet) long, once an hour up to three times per day. These flames are hot enough to melt metal, turn sand into glass, and consume everything they touch. However, natural living flora and fauna of the amazon remains totally unharmed by their flames.
In combat a Boitata bites and constricts, trapping victims in its flaming coils, burning and crushing them. Burning damage for those in contact with a Boitata is 1D3 additional points per round. *Those breaking free of the creature’s coils (#which requires beating it on an opposed STR roll) continue to burn, taking 1D3, then 1D2, then 1 point of damage over the next three rounds. This can be stopped if the victim spends a round extinguishing themselves (ex – covering themselves in a blanket, diving into water, rolling around on the ground, etc). Boitata take half damage from mundane weapons, as bullets, arrows, spears, and other such items start melting or burning before striking their hides.
While water seems a good weapon to use against them, it’s not very effective. Splashing or hurling water on such creatures only produces steam, as it evaporates before coming in contact with the creature’s hide. Even hurling a fire extinguisher at one, and having it explode, causes only 1D6 points of damage to it. To truly be effective water must be delivered from a high powered fire hose, which causes the creatures 1D8+4 points of damage per round.
Once a Bonitata mandate is fulfilled (ex – Kill a corrupt official concealing illegal logging, destroy a logging camp, drive off developers threatening a sacred Amazonian site, ect) these creatures revert to their natural state until called upon to serve their dark goddess once more.
