Alternative names: Feasters Within, Con-Rit
Yg’bh are centipede-like creatures with a parasitic larval stage. They can be found on any world with warm-blooded megafauna and abundant water. On Earth, their preferred hosts are humans.
A host becomes infested when drinking water tainted with microscopic, translucent Yg’bh eggs. Implanted, the eggs hatch into larvae which begin feeding on the host. The larvae release enzymes that act as a local anesthetic; host will have no idea they are being eaten alive. As the larvae grow, one becomes dominate, killing and consuming the others. Eventually, it takes full control over the host’s body, controlling their movements and thoughts, and sharing the host’s memories. There is little to indicate what is happening to the host. They will however become increasingly depressed, withdrawn, and have a predilection to sugary and fatty foods.
Once the Yg’bh has reached maturity, about four years from infection, it drives the host to a large body of water – preferably the ocean. At the water’s edge it emerges, shedding the host body like a snake shedding its skin. It unfolds and unwinds as it crawls out of the host, revealing itself to be much larger the body that once hid it.
If threatened, Yg’bh may escape its host before it reached maturity. These Yg’bh will be forever stunted.
Mature Yg’bh spend their entire lives in the water but can survive on land for a few days at a time. Yg’bh can detect infected hosts and will often watch over the hosts from a distance.
Yg’bh are immortal except for violence and grow throughout their lives. There are rumors of Yg’bh in the Indian Ocean as large as whales.
