Shoggoth.net is currently looking into generating revenue in order to offer to pay authors to write stories. Nothing is carved in stone yet and it will probably be a month or two before we begin paying just so we can get some cash in the bank so to speak and we can all get acclimated to this new system (*shudder* accounting *shudder*).
One of the immediate changes you will notice right now is that the Free Mythos Site banner ad now appears at the bottom of the page as well as the top. This is due to the fact that one of the things we will be trying is banner ads. Yes real paying banner ads. I don’t like it anymore than you do, but at the same time we have to pay our authors. So, the free banner ads will still be hosted on our sit, but at the bottom of the screen. You will still be able to link to the free banners if you like using the following code:
That said we’re also considering hopping on the e-commerce bandwagon, even after the Grand Canyon sized pot hole known to industry professionals as the DotCom Die-Out. We will be starting buy selling T-Shirts, stickers, decals, videos and possibly some magazines. However, it is a lot of money to get started and to maintain monthly fees. Basically the way we are figuring things right now, we’d have to sell 6 shirts a month just to break even. Obviously this is a fairly risky venture to a nonprofit site new to the idea of having revenue. Shoggoth.net, by the way WILL remain non profit even after revenue starts coming in, we’re merely trying to pay authors and possibly cover expenses of some upcoming expansions.
