Back when I first got into Lovecraft in high school, one of my friend's brothers picked up a copy of the Necronomicon at B. Dalton. Skeptical yet intrigued, I decided to read through it- only to find that a great deal of the text was stolen (wording for the most part, intact) from various early Middle Eastern creation texts, with a few of the names of the Old Ones slapped here and there...
To anyone but a child or a Slayer fan, it was an obvious forgery (yeah, I'm a metal head, but Slayer blows.) What follows is the history of the forged product of HPL's imagination, pirated for a quick buck (or pound, rather.)
