I of the Storm

It’s been looking back at me for hours. I can smell its fetid breath now as it draws ever nearer, hear its grumbling and moaning as if it were in the next room.

Parchment

Once I gloried in the smell of old books, their crumbling, mildew-stained pages reminding me of the ancient and forgotten mysteries I beheld nightly within their covers. But no longer, for it was my fate to survive the most primal of terrors, and to find myself beyond the shroud of ordinary existence for a while…a destiny I shall relate in this account.

Seven Grinches Grinching

Everyone gets just a little sick of the holidays these days. The blatant commercialism is enough to suck the life out of anyone. But what if this Yuletide apathy were to take on physical form and smite the citizens of Townsville (Or wherever the Investigators happen to live)? So, let’s take a moment to meet little Ms. Tabitha Elliott…

Six Cults a-Culting

Following once again in the tenuous holiday connection of “the stars just happen to be aligning on the Winter Solstice!” we present a scenario in which arcane resources are finite, and a number of fringe cults and duking it out to come up on top before the Winter Solstice.

Three Great Old Ones

There are some pretty general assumptions about the Great Old Ones. First, that all of them were to some degree friendly or neutral to each other. (Or, they seem that way to this uneducated boob.) Second, is that they are all somehow sealed away by intentional means. This scenario tosses those two assumptions out the window as three bitter enemies prepare to awaken from the millennia long slumber in order to renew their past gripes with each other.

Half Barney and Half Human Half Shoggoth

After the S&D of 01/16/01 Dr. Bustoffson’s remains were brought back to HQ. There was a lot of discussion about if and how he should be revived, and it was decided that the Essential Salts Ritual (with a few improvements) was the best bet.

The Seer

The place is a zoo, I thought, a little disturbed, as more and more people packed themselves into Casey’s Irish Pub. A Karaoke DJ was going full swing in the corner, and what seemed like hundreds of milling bodies pushed and gyrated on the dance floor. Beer flowed endlessly from the taps as several pretty young waitresses rushed beverage after beverage to their customers. Continue reading »

Mary

She is at it again, I realized, as I slowly stirred awake in my bed. The glowing dial on the bedside clock read 1:40 AM, and the steady tapping in the walls was growing louder as Mary felt her way through the walls of my old farmhouse. I sighed, flipped the covers off of me, and swung my legs over the edge of the bed.  My stun gun sat on the dresser. I took it with me as I left my bedroom and headed for the cellar stairs. The Knick-Knack Queen

Her online screenname was “KnickKnackQueen”, and he shocked himself when he asked her to meet him; normally he only began to pursue his prey after talking in the chat rooms for a few weeks. This time, it took only a few hours for him to realize that the inevitable ending was likely to happen. He had to have her, and soon. And so when the knick-knack queen said maybe, she would think about it over night and let him know in the morning, he knew he had her. She gave him her phone number, and he gave her his. A real number, it would ring, but not anywhere around here. And no one was likely to answer a payphone in the middle of a rundown shopping center with only an IGA that was almost out of business on a Sunday morning. Continue reading »
